Sustainable Agriculture – Introduction

Auroville has some of the most diverse forms of practitioners of Organic Farming; their practices have influenced and re-introduced sustainable agriculture in the region around Auroville. This programme will be focused on Sustainable Farming Methods and Practices. We train the participants both theoretically and practically to adopt and practice sustainable agriculture in their own farm for both their healthy lifestyle as well as for their livelihood.

Subjects covered:

  • Sustainable Farming Methods and Practices; Bio-Inputs Preparation, Pest control methods
  • Conversion to Organic Farming practices and Organic certification process
  • Value Addition, Business planning and Marketing of organic farming products

Sustainable Agriculture – Advanced

An advanced programme on Sustainable Agriculture that is custom designed for specific region and district needs to promote / practice sustainable agriculture.

Special focus has been given to

  • Community Supported Agriculture
  • Millet production, processing and value addition
  • Bio-inputs and Organic Pest control Methods
  • Greens and Vegetable Cultivation
  • Raising Nursery and Maintenance

Dairy: Ethno-veterinary and Cattle Care Management

This programme aims to empower the local people with the knowledge of ethnoveterinary so that they are capable to treat their cattle on their own with the support of locally available herbs and groceries available in their kitchen and not spend a huge amount on the expensive medicines.  It provides them with various outlooks on the traditional practices which could add value to their dairy products and cattle care management.

Subjects covered:

  • Understanding common cattle diseases and its causes, symptoms
  • Identifying  the commonly available herbs, their medicinal properties and how to prepare and administer medicine utilizing these medicines to cattle
  • Clean Dairy practices, Fodder preparation and cattle care management to reduce the cost of maintenance
  • Business planning and Marketing of Dairy products
